My thesis work, All the Layers Between, is a textile installation that holds space for the beauties and tensions between women’s histories and textile craft. The work depicts a union between the female body and materials deeply implicated in the shaping of gendered cultures. I ask the viewer to contemplate their initial impressions when face to face with a fabric sculpture rich in femininity, sensuality, and labor. What do I see? All the Layers Between.
