“In a series of intimate egg shaped paintings, soft sculpture elements made from canvas, fabric, object, and papier-mache enclose a partially obscured reposing figure. These works draw inspiration from protective icons and amulets, as well as symbols of self-preservation (egg, crystal geode, flower) with the intention of evoking a nostalgic feeling of maternal safety.”
Dana Margulis is a Toronto based artist completing her BFA at OCAD University. She specializes in painting, mixed media, and soft sculpture, with a focus on material play and experimentation. She aims to create art that is both healing and comforting, as she blends subjects of rebirth, magic, and the spiritual realm with her background in Christian iconography.
