“"In my painting, I am expressive, whimsical, and joyful. I have liberated myself from framing the picturesque material world or reenacting philosophical elevated modern art in my canvas. I instead filled it with simple and vibrant colours and childlike doodles. I filled it with something that I find joy in, simplicity, flatforms, and animated colours. I simply want to deliver this sense of happiness to my audience."”

Esther Kim is a South Korean Canadian raised in Vancouver, currently a Toronto-based artist. She majored in a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCADU). Kim’s work focuses on modifying existing and shared ideas in the past, endlessly building up an idea from exchanging her diverse perspective, personal value, and life experience combining digital and traditional mediums. Working primarily in acrylic painting, she digitally draws, mixes, and selects pre-existing elements into new combinations and transfers the images onto canvas by playing around with colours, textures, forms, and lines into a vivid image form. Kim’s simple form, vibrant and bright palette expresses her unconscious desire to seek meanings of happiness and hope in life.
