“Combining her professional skills as a multidisciplinary designer and animation specialist with the forward-thinking lens of Digital Futures, Priya works to address the needs of an increasingly complicated digital world. Through her master’s research, Priya envisions and activates a largely unexplored futurism discipline for India: Indofuturism as a means for Indian people and their descendants to respond to postcolonial ramifications. Using a multitude of media, such as virtual reality, 3D art, creative coding, physical computing, volumetric video, dance performance, Priya created five interactive installations of Indofuturist artefacts that actualised this vision of Indofuturism, and disseminated the conceptual analysis of this research as an Indofuturist Manifesto: a call to action for other creators and thinkers of Indian descent to delve into this emerging discipline.”
Priya is a multidisciplinary designer, animation specialist and virtual reality artist from Mumbai, India. She has over ten years’ experience designing visual narratives and innovative media creations for international clientele. She has won international awards, including gold trophies at Promax Awards 2020 and a Brandon Hall 2017 silver award for her design and animation work. Prior to joining the OCAD U Digital Futures graduate program, Priya was a Design Team Lead at Accenture, a multinational creative consultancy firm, where she designed bespoke media solutions for international clientele while supervising a team of designers. Priya is a recipient of OCAD U Dean’s Scholarship, and a co-recipient of two public art installation grants by KOLAB PROJECT and OCAD U. She has taught 3D animation workshops for OCAD U’s DPXA undergraduate program as Guest Faculty, and worked at the Public Visualisation Lab as a Research Assistant, contributing to the creation of a unique multiscreen virtual workshop exhibited at ISEA 2020. Currently, she works at OCAD U’s Social Body Lab.
