“I hope to create visual narratives that expand on cultural identity and appreciation of my family's history. Continuing this work is to engage in an unspoken conversation with the past, present, and future of my heritage, leaving more questions than answers, as well as a desire to know more.”
Kathy Nguyen is a Vietnamese photographer based in Toronto and Ottawa. Her interest began with editorial and portraiture photography but has continued to explore more themes within family culture and self-identity. Often her work uses models and props to convey reimagined memories of childhood and experiments with how our family's life experiences and rituals culminate into our identity as we grow up. She hopes to expand her work into experimental audio and video art.
