“Teta Alit visually translates phrases from the Arabic/Lebanese language into literal scenarios to bring humor, lighthearted connection, and understanding between diverse backgrounds. This series will play with language and show how beautiful, poetic, and funny the Arabic language is. The title in English means, "My Grandmother said". Teta is My Grandmother in Lebanese, and the word Alit can be translated to the word said. For a more detailed explanation or to hear the pronunciation of each expression can be found on my blog: www.miadebbas.com/blog/teta-alit”

Hey! my name is Mia. I am a Lebanese-Canadian illustrator. Born in Beirut, I came to Toronto after graduating high school in 2016. Drawing is something that I have been doing since I was a child. I love bringing my ideas and stories to life by just drawing them. I have skills in both digital and analog illustration. In 2019, I started to customize jackets for family and decided to start a small side business on customizing jackets. I hope to give a new life to clothing articles and give them a longer life to reduce textile waste and give the wearer a piece of clothing they will feel connected with. I will be working closely with my clients and constantly update them on the progress of the jackets or other articles they give me to paint on. I currently work with jackets; I use acrylic paint and textile paint to customize the jacket.
