““Imposter Syndrome” explores the complexities of second generation immigrant identities through the duality of simultaneously being a citizen in one land and having roots elsewhere.”

Julia Mathew is a Toronto based artist originally born and raised in Vancouver. Julia first started drawing at a young age, using mediums such as phonebooks and bedroom walls to express herself artistically, driving her immigrant apartment-renting parents mad. She has since evolved and has found a passion in bringing generational immigrant communities to the forefront of her work. Mathew touches on subjects of diaspora culture, love, identity politics and cultural imposter syndrome-- exploring complex identities through unconventional and experimental mixed media.
