My research subject explores and creates metaphors and visualizations of the helicopter parenting in childhood and its impact in children’s life. A realistic, organic shaped bird body part acts as a metaphor for the results of helicopter parenting. A non-realistic, or geometric bird body part is a metaphor for my effort to adapt into new life. A doll body part is a metaphor for the pressure and manipulation/control from parents. (Photo: Yochen Liu)

“Twelve eyes are arranged in a circle like a watch, reminding me that my parents are watching me all the time. The spinning movement of the eyes resembles the motion of a helicopter fluttering in the air. With all the attention, the bird feels stifling, as if a tight neck cuff, which also is the base of the wheel mechanic, is choking it to death.”

“There is always a good story behind each piece. This series of works is made of modeling with different media and narrates the story of a teenager under helicopter parenting.”
