In these works I have been examining the mundane, bland, and temporal nature of the everyday. Speaking about the formal qualities of paint application, my process starts with establishing a grid structure which responds to the scale of the surface I’m painting on. I think of this stage functioning similarly to scaffolding or false work. The grid structure is a template which establishes the boundaries of my composition and designates space for colour and markmaking. These structures usually consist of quadrilateral, and circular forms placed in relation to a grid.
