“Visions is a 2D-frame by frame single-channel animation exploring the meditative process of the 7 basic chakras via abstract sensory experience. It follows the tumultuous patterns of a hyperactive and anxious mind that eventually arrives at a state of self-realization and heightened awareness via breathing, colour and sound. The title is taken after the inner (closed-eyed) visions that can be seen during meditative states. This piece is inspired by the Sanskrit concept of chakras- which can be loosely translated into "spinning wheels or disks". Additionally, this psychedelic animation was inspired by personal meditations where I used visualization techniques to see the entire "visible" colour spectrum (red-violet) with closed eyes (hence the black background).Visions is influenced by abstract and experimental animation that synthesizes audio and visual aesthetics. The three most influential animators on the artist are Joanne Priestley, Norman McLaren and Oskar Fischinger. Each of these artists utilize colour, motion, audio and abstraction in their own unique voice. The sound design and composition is inspired by Eastern mystical instruments and vocal techniques such as singing bowls, throat singing, and toning.”
