“Bonded: Exploring Individuality and Connection in Twinship”
Jewellery
2025
The twinship between twins is built on profound connection and shaped by individual growth. Growing up side by side, they formed an unbreakable connection through shared memories, experiences, and an almost instinctive understanding of each other. Yet, despite their closeness, each has forged a distinct identity, following her own unique path with different passions and perspectives.
“The thesis explores the deep connection I share with my twin sister and how it shapes our identities. Mutualism is one of the central themes, symbolized by the shark and remora fish. My sister, like the shark, is independent and takes the lead, while I, like the remora fish, follow her guidance while carving my own path. This dynamic of support and individuality, symbolizing leadership and adaptability, shapes our relationship. A key turning point was when my sister traveled alone to Fiji for a shark conservation program—our first significant separation. Inspired by her experience, I pursued my diving certification, which strengthened my love for the ocean and became a significant influence in my jewellery design. The collection, which includes a ring, earring, cuff, and necklace, reflects oceanic forms and motion, featuring marquise-shaped stones reminiscent of fish and vibrant gemstones that symbolize our dynamic connection to the nature. The necklace, featuring an abstract shark-inspired design which reinforced through our names, Chi. Two distinct blue gemstones of round blue starbite- cut topaz represents the shark, while a light blue marquise-cut cubic zirconia represents the remora fish to represent the concept of twin hierarchy. Precise mirrored and symmetrical forms were designed using Rhino software, then printed as castable wax models and transformed into sterling silver through the casting process. I also incorporated intricate gem-setting techniques, such as claw and bead settings, to enhance the final pieces.”
