Meander — Recollection of Water

Environmental Design
2021
Meander began as a way to update the Toronto wastewater treatment plants, shifting from a facilities that uses methods from the 1960's with machinery and chemicals, to ones that implemented the slope and curves of the landscape into creating winding rivers that naturally treated the water along the way. This park project proved far too grand, but the research that went into updating our systems led to this, a facility which proposes to further treat a bit of the effluent so it's safe to deposit back into the river & Lake Ontario. Meander emerges from the landscape to the East of the Humber Wastewater Treatment Plant, tightly hugging the park trail, and descending unto the water overshooting the marshes.

“Meander aims to reintroduce the population of South Etobicoke and West Toronto with the Humber river & waterfront, while publicizing the South Humber Park Trail as a mid-city getaway, and addressing the toxic output from the Humber Wastewater Treatment Plant so that water ceases to be pumped 5km offshore but is instead reused for greater purpose.”
