LONELINESS

Sculpture
2023
cardboard and papier mache
18" x 33.6" (45.7cm x 85.4cm)
This piece represents loneliness in my collection, FEAR. Loneliness is something that everyone experiences at some point in life that unites us so that we are ultimately alone together. This is an interactive piece that depicts a large sculpture of a human brain that viewers can look inside to find a small figure located at the bottom.

“No one wants to live a lonely life; life is meant to be shared and filled with the love of family and friends. The absence or feeling of isolation from others can feel devastating. When I am feeling distanced from loved ones I feel as though I am trapped within my thoughts of 'they must all hate me' and 'I have no friends'. I wanted to sculpt my brain and show a figure representing these thoughts stuck inside with the dark negativity surrounding them. Loneliness is truly isolating and I aim for this piece to reflect the feeling of being truly alone.”
