Oil on Wood Panel
This piece talks about the past and even ongoing struggles of the aboriginal peoples of Canada, brought by the broken promises and contracts by the foreign European invaders. This painting, specifically, talks about the issues regarding the residential schools which tore and separated countless children from their own parents and guardians. The image I used for reference was taken from the movie, Indian Horse, which follows a Canadian First Nations boy that survives a residential school in the 1970’s.
