Proud of You, is a 2D experimental short film inspired by my mother’s emotions and experiences throughout motherhood.

“Proud of You is a 2D experimental, non-narrative short documentary film inspired by my mother’s experiences and emotions during motherhood. The main themes explored are immigrant motherhood and appreciating the love between mother and child. The title, Proud of You, refers to the ambiguous appreciation my mother and I share for one another; it is meant for the audience to interpret that we are proud of one another, and it is not a one-sided feeling directed to the other. The animation is inspired by Natalie Baird and Toby Gillies’ film, Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying, where the use of colour translates the blend of emotions that explore the bonds we hold for our loved ones. Proud of You combines the use of colour to explore our emotions and the heartfelt but short words shared in the narration to navigate the love and appreciation between mother and daughter.”
