Pagitan: The Space in Between
Environmental Design
2026
This thesis investigates the emotional and spatial distance experienced by Filipino migrants in Toronto who remain connected to families and communities in the Philippines. Focusing on Little Manila located in Bathurst-Wilson the project explores how overlooked urban edges can become collective spaces of remembrance and reconnection. By translating the concept of Pagitan the space between into spatial and material form, the design aims to bridge personal and cultural separation, transforming an underused site into a landscape of gathering, reflection, and shared memory.
