Downward retrofit strategies for the future of high-rise buildings

“The majority of high-rise buildings’ lifespan is estimated to be around 70 to 120 years, questions arise about their long-term viability. What does the future hold for these structures that are bound to lose their functionality? Due to the excessive height of such structures, the renovation and demolition processes have proven to be cost and resource intensive. Rather than repeating the ongoing cycle of construction and demolition, the following project proposes the strategic deconstruction and downwards retrofit of pre-existing towers. ”
