“This painting explores the tension between exhaustion and wakefulness. She sits in bed, holding a book as she tries to ease herself into sleep, but her underlying unease lingers. Behind her, a dark, elongated form looms, neither fully part of the space nor entirely separate from it. Insomnia creeps in and fills the room as the night deepens. The softness of the pillows and delicate night dress cannot ease the oppressive knowledge that sleep will not come for a long, long time.”
