Multiplicity of Disengagement

Painting
2021
oil and acrylic on canvas
40 x 40 inches
This painting is part of a series of five works on canvas, each of which is in dialogue with the other. Collectively, these paintings explore aspects of fragmentation and disembodiment in the context of my identity and South Asian upbringing. Vulnerable, disengaged, and incomplete bodies are set in whimsical, abstract spaces, and often appear stuck between planes. These bodies allude to fragmented identities, and to the multiplicity of an identity caused by feelings of fragmentation.
