Al Mac's Diner
Painting
2021
Acrylic on canvas pad paper
20" x 16"
A painting that explores the experience of the viewer looking through a windshield.
“This painting contains the dash of the interior of a 1957 Chevrolet Bel-Air, my favourite car. Through the windshield is Al Mac's diner, which opened in 1953 in Massachusetts, USA. I used two reference photos and combined them to complete this painting, which depicts the viewer as the driver of the car, looking toward the diner, perhaps in a parking space, waiting to go in, or just leaving. I wanted to express the liveliness of the car and the bright neon lights of the diner that make customers want to visit. I painted this as a way for me to have the experience of being in the car and experiencing this diner someday.”
