This residential renovation in downtown Toronto transforms a two‑story laneway house for an elderly couple, one of whom has dementia. Designed to support aging in place, the project addresses current activities of daily living while anticipating future needs.

“This laneway house is focused on elderly-oriented design.Structurally, the two shifted volumes (one darker, one filled with light) create a split floor plan around a central stair. This clarity helps the elderly couple (one living with dementia) recognize every room more easily, lowering the chance of disorientation. The project investigates how building layout can offer real, everyday convenience to people’s lives. ”
