Kevin - Backgrounds
Illustration
Before Kevin came to life, his world had to be built, and that’s always been my favorite part. This section showcases the finished background art that helped shape the film. From office spaces to Kevin's home, these pieces set the tone for the story before a single frame was animated.
“The backgrounds in Kevin are one of my favorite parts of the film. I love designing spaces that feel lived-in and a little strange, with tiny details you might only catch if you’re really looking. From the stiff, identical cubicles to the lint collecting under the couch in Kevin’s house, every space was a chance to quietly build the world around him. There are weird office posters, a ridiculous office building name, and a few sticky notes on Kevin’s desk that definitely weren’t written by a person. I’m always looking for ways to sneak little easter eggs into my backgrounds. Things like weird emails, suspicious coffee stains, and offbeat details that add personality to a place without drawing too much attention. It’s those small, silly touches that make a space feel real to me, and getting to pack Kevin’s world with them was one of the best parts of making this film.”
