A found family is something most queer people see as essential to surviving in a queerphobic world; it is something that gives community, support, and joy, among other things. It is not something that I have, however. This painting is my idyll — my own found family, born of colour and line. It depicts a bacchanal of fellow trans women. It is a beautiful illusion of a world divorced from transphobia, one where our happiness is centred and our bodies are not problems to be eradicated but instead things to be celebrated.
