Sensoria: Becoming With
Installation
2021
acrylic on canvas, spray paint, plant cuttings in water
9 x 3 feet
Image Description:A long piece of canvas covered in colour gradient drapes from the wall onto the floor. The painting depicts a pair of feet at the top of the canvas, hands on either side, and a portrait of a person with flowing pink hair on the bottom layed out on the ground. The canvas has several varying sized holes cut throughout so that a variety of plants peek through.
“How do we care for each other? What does it mean that my houseplants feed me as much as I feed them? What does it say that I serve my furniture as it serves me? Sensoria: Becoming With taps into new ways of sensing, opening possibilities of how we connect and coexist with other lifeforms, building up sympoietic systems together. Suspended in a moment of time, this care and keeping of one another leads an emergence of new life through evolving material conversations. Soon, might the chlorophyll transfigure the pigment of my aurratic glow, might the woven linen be ingested by the soil it envelops, demonstrating what it means to become-with one another. My body embraces my cohabitants, meshing into their sensorium, and together we lay here, photosynthesizing and plotting our ongoingness. ”
