New in iOS 17 is an application called Elsewhere with Apple that focuses on liminal design principles that address the problem of users being contextually unavailable by providing them with immersive and engaging experiences that allow them to escape the constraints of their physical environment.Through narrative desire, optimized abstraction, and suspension of disbelief, Elsewhere with Apple uses a unique and personalized algorithm to detect when users are most susceptible to entering digital liminality, making for the most organic transition into the potential space. With four levels all happening in real-time, the app will take you on a journey through colour and cognition, tactile sound, visual connection, and concludes with a contextual question. At the end of their journey, users will be invited to complete a template reflection piece in a medium of their choice, whether it be image, text, video, or audio.You can view my process work below.
