Sangaela

Sangaela is the name of the boat I lived on for three years as a child. The name itself is an anagram of the first two letters of every member of my family's name and thus holds an extremely deep familial and nostalgic association with it. Sangaela was created as a homage to the wonderful nostalgic golden parts of my youth while also hinting at the themes of isolation. With no peers; my only company was my immediate family, art itself, my teddy bear, Calvin and Hobbes comic books and etc. Although at first glance this piece looks like a fairytale childhood scene, its actually a depiction of a very vulnerable and lonely child.
