Preparation & Performance
Illustration
2020
"Preparation & Performance" looks at the importance which proper planning and preparation inevitably effects the result of any action. This piece uses big mountain skiing as its example, specifically because of all of the elements which are required to even get the individual to the point at which they can perform. This ranges from training in the off seasons to improve physical preparedness, to sorting out the logistics associated with accessing remote mountain locations across the world, to making sure their equipment set up is correctly dialled in, not to mention a whole host of other technical aspects. All of these elements nee to be properly squared away in order for the individual to be able to fully and completely focus on their descent. During these descents there is absolutely no room within the persons mind for outside thoughts or concerns, and to have focus be pulled in any direction outside the task has the potential for severe and even deadly consequences.
