Gulasor is a literary mosaic honouring Kurdistan, illustrating the untold lives of Kurdish women in this heart-wrenching saga. Drawn from real interviews of heartbreak and loss, these thrilling short stories paint stunning landscapes of raw emotion during the Iraq war, weaving personal testimonies into rhythms of feminist and religious ideologies, while uncovering the true aftermath of Saddam Hussein’s Anfal Campaign.
“I sometimes search for the piece of myself I left behind in Kurdistan, usually once every four years since I was an infant. During my last trip, I realized that I did not need to search anymore– my existence was carried by the women around me.Kurdish women have carried the weight of home throughout centuries. The strongest of warriors, the realities they have faced are never vocalized or heard. Their stories of deep romance and community in times of war and genocide inspired the creation of Gulasor. These women are the roots of this tale.”
