07 "Mummy and Me"

A short, hand-drawn, frame-by-frame animation, all on the same piece of paper.

“I am interested in how photographs can act as a memory aid or, at the very least, give us an illusion of memory. This animation starts with a photograph and me with my late mother. Inspired by William Kentridge's process for creating animation, I use charcoal and conte to quickly sketch and then erase each frame. Since it is all drawn on the same piece of paper, we see some of the history of each drawing. I also use minimal colours and a simple gesture to help bring out the significance of the moment. ”
