Blood Mother
Painting
2025
acrylic on canvas
30" x 36"
Blood Mother features two large apple halved, and underneath a figure resembling the virgin Mary holding a lamb whose legs are tied with a red bow.
“Blood Mother is the first painting in this series, and explores the complex relationship between mothers and daughters. Using imagery of the virgin Mary, and a lamb, this piece is about the expectations of the perfect mother, and the pressures of womanhood and how they can impact the relationship between mothers and daughters. The imagery of an apple symbolizes the “apple not falling far from the tree” and the fear of becoming our mothers. ”
