The Confession

Painting
2020
1'x3'
This piece examines what has recently been dubbed as the Coptic “Me-Too Movement” and invites the viewer to engage in a dialogue with the various parties presented: a defrocked clergyman at the door of his office in only his 3ema, and a group of women at his door with his clerical robe. The piece does not possess associations to any particular individuals, events, or mandates, or opinions even, but rather serves as a visual commentary for a social dichotomy. It acts as a call to discussion regarding the need for communicating what might socially be considered “inappropriate discussions” in Egypt, but “important discussions” in the diaspora for community advancement and progress.
