“Second Funeral was a performative collaboration with Florence Yee and with our reaction towards the Gallery of Chinese Architecture collection at the Royal Ontario Museum. Within the collection is the Ming era tomb of General Zu Dashou including the stone gateway and offering table moved to Toronto from Beijing. The monument now sits among the collection as objects to be viewed and yet removed from their original purpose. Plates of food, fruits and cups of wine would sit on the stone table accompanied by the lighting of incense and the burning of joss paper in memory of the ancestors. The photos from our visits to the museum were screen printed into joss paper which we burn in memory of the ancestors honouring the objects and the bodies in the museum. We call them back home. All images of the installation at OCADU Graduate Gallery were by Florence Yee. ”
