River House (Undergraduate Thesis)

Environmental Design
2020
The basis of the thesis investigation consists of redesigning two existing low-income rental apartment buildings by the Humber River. The buildings are situated along Dundas St. W. and Jane St. in Toronto, Ontario. The surrounding environment of the site consists of recreational spaces and educational buildings. The integration of architecture and the philosophy of phenomenology is an underlying principal throughout the design. The site influences the cultivation of the community to be embedded into nature through the programmatic spaces of River House.

“The thesis focuses on rethinking a space that can create a designed journey to reframe the experience of the Lambton Mills neighbourhood along the Humber River. Through the use of education and exploration, the community will be able to reconnect to nature and the surrounding ecology to promote learning and caring for the river.”
