Victi Vanitus is a concept for a hypothetical drug that builds a convincing narrative and response to a current human situation; for this project, I chose to explore the world of the narcissist. Creating a phone app with desirable products offered for purchase would be an appropriate platform to advertise my conceptual drug. Through my research, I found Twitter to be very narcissistic in nature, so enticing potential customers through an exclusive link would play right into the reasoning of a narcissist.The drug, however, was not the bottled product offered in the app store. The drug was administered digitally through a type of hypnosis or subliminal messaging while the user answered a series of questions. There are “glitches in the system” as the user explores the app; it has been proven that high screen usage affects our brain patterns, emotions and even personality. I believe using the digital screen as a form of “drug” can be plausible for use in the future.I chose dark, rich colours to exude a sense of luxury and class in order to attract a narcissistic individual to the product. Having "exclusive" items plays into the persona of a narcissist and their desire to be exceptional. The logo consists of a narcissus flower and a latin phrase, Victi Vanitas, which means "vanquish vanity". The pharmaceutical industry is a powerful and profitable industry that produces products necessary for human life. This project offered an opportunity to think critically and creatively about human interactions with drugs, and develop an effective story that explores a deeper message.
