Tethers of Extraction: Balancing Nature and Legacy
Installation
2024
Paper, Cardboard, Cotton Yarn, PU Foam Sheet.
This work explores the connection between humans and nature. The red yarn represents our ties to history and the environment. The hanging rock looks heavy but is light, symbolizing the burden of resource use. The hook and rock resemble labor tools, reflecting hard work and hidden struggles. The piece invites viewers to reflect on what we take from nature and what we choose to protect.
“The red yarn in this work symbolizes the deep connection between people and nature, showing how our past and present are closely tied. It reflects the ongoing tension between using natural resources and the need to protect them. This reminds us of the effect human actions have on the environment and our cultural heritage. The hanging rock, though it appears heavy, is actually light. It represents the burden of taking from nature and the fragile balance we must maintain to protect it. The rock and hook, which look like tools of labor, highlight themes of hard work and unseen struggles. This installation invites viewers to think about how we treat the earth—what we take from it, and what we choose to protect and restore for the future.”
