Cross-check me!

Sculpture
2026
Hockey stick, fishing wire, 3D printed sculptures, and LED battery powered lights.
Approx. 5ft x 1.5ft.
Cross-checking, an illegal move in hockey, is when a player takes their stick, with both hands, and physically strikes another player with the length of their stick. Historically and currently in professional hockey, cross-checking is not consistently enforced and is often seen as an integral part of the game. Using 3D prints of my own hockey gloves, with LED lights shining through the gloves to reveal their internal structure, and an old hockey stick, this work highlights how sports, and specifically hockey, reflect and mirror the integral violence that exists in Canada.
