“A friend was beginning her cancer treatment, which got me thinking about lumps. About how they are shapeless forms that sit there with dormant potential (either benign or malignant). I wanted to use latex because of its skin-like texture. The "smile" at the bottom was not pre-planned, but emerged gradually as I was laying down each lump.”
