Book compiled of 35mm images documenting found objects in abandoned homes in the Greater Toronto Area
“In the late summer of 2025, I began combing through the Greater Toronto Area in pursuit of abandoned homes to photograph.Beneath sagging ceilings and alongside buckled floors, I encountered fragments of lives suspended in time. Soap bars rested on oxidized metal shelves, still marked by the impressions of the bodies that had once used them. Art still hung on putrid walls that swelled and cracked like sighs from those that dwelled inside them. I will never fully understand the histories of these homes or their inhabitants, so I can only navigate these spaces my own associations to what I encounter, a collision between personal nostalgia and found objects. All of the images included in this book were captured on an Olympus Stylus point-and-shoot film camera, where manual intervention is limited. While documenting this project was an intrusive process, and cameras (people) are often greedy, I aspired to be observational in my method. Nothing that appears in these images has been arranged, staged, or modified in post-production. These photographs are intended as quiet observations of lives interrupted, as though caught mid-gesture.”
