This piece is a compilation video using photographs, screen shots, screen recordings and video, documenting places and events from the neighbourhoods I grew up in. The footage in this video is mixture of both current and past events. My neighbourhood is constantly on the news or on social media because of the constant violence. The vague still images and videos have a lot of personal significance to me. These places give the viewers a glance at locations where shoot out’s happened, murders, and places where I faced situations that I might not have come out of. The purpose of this video is not to shame where I come from but to show our everyday struggles. This community, like any other underprivileged, troubled neighbourhood, struggles with pain and resentment. We are judged and looked down upon. The youth are misguided and are not given enough chances or opportunities. We are given the scraps left over from society and are expected to make due and be content with it. We are made to feel as if we will never leave or make something of our selves. We will never feel accepted by the upper class, no matter what we attain or what we accomplish. Our only hope is to survive.
