pumphouse is a platform sculpture that recalls a pier, a bridge, or man-made island. The rods and cables add tension or motion, creating a kinetic energy. This platform gestures to the constructed-ness of constructed space, the massive machines and labour that produce these hyper-constructed spaces and enable their intended futures to come to fruition. In the industrial starkness of this work, it also becomes a space with a manufactured rationality that gives it authoritative purpose. Its justification is the fact that we built it, so we accept its logics without question.
