1. Unraveled Tradition

Painting

24x36 encaustic, oil, charcoal, textile on cradled wood This work investigates the idea of diasporic living. Here I used the border of a traditional handwoven rug to "frame" an image inspired by the Canadian landscape tradition. The fibers of the rug intertwine with the painted image. I used the charcoal image transfer method to render the image of the tree to give it a fragmented, impression-like appearance. It is a reference to the way our memories are fragmented. The rug also stands as a metaphor for political borders that divide land.
