Cut Ties departs from 切結書 /che-jie-shu/, a confessional and legally binding document, signed by the artist as a child to her mother. Through reanimating her past selves by the imagined voices of karaoke backing tracks, the artist investigates the coerced compliance and broken trust in filial debt and bureaucratic systems laid bare by these documents. Cut Tie is a site-specific installation work intended for cinema theatres.
