You Are My Sunshine

"You Are My Sunshine" explores my close relationship with my father. Every year, he would ask me to make him something for his birthday rather than buying him something. I always thought it was because he didn't want anything or want me to spend money, but later learned it was more than that. He appreciated handmade gifts and seeing me explore my creativity. He has been one of my biggest supporters throughout my art career, so I decided to make this screenprint for him. The meaning behind the design is the growth of our relationship and how it is filled with nothing but love. The title represents a song that my dad used to sing to me as a lullaby, 'You Are My Sunshine' by Gene Autry.
