Spinal Synapse
Mixed Media
2025
Clay, plaster and acrylic paint on wood canvas.
5" x 3"
Exploring the convergence of the human body with mechanics, this piece captures the tension between the organic, spiritual, and synthetic. What appears to resemble a human spine appears to be gently protruding through a skin-like material, the artificial skin stretches and shifts, becoming a bridge for a future where flesh and machine converge not only for utility, but for transcendence. The spine-like form represents the backbone as both biological necessity and spiritual conduit. It evokes both fascination and unease: the intimacy of skin, the alienness of machinery, and the uncertain beauty of their union.
“In this piece, I wanted to imagine a powerful integration of technology into human identity- not as an external add-on, but as an intrinsic part of what we are becoming. It asks the viewer to contemplate the implications of this transformation—whether it represents liberation from the limits of biology or a loss of the very essence of what it means to be human. Where does divinity lie in an age of accelerating intelligence? Is transcendence something we discover, or something we build? And when the machine becomes sacred, what does that make of the body?”
