The Shadow of my Mother and Father

Painting

acrylic paint on canvas

A piece inspired by The Ravaged Bridegroom by Marion Woodman. Drawing from the theme of early betrayal, where a lack of bonding between mother and child leaves a lasting wound. Without trust in her own body, the figure is gripped by fear of vulnerability. Confronted by the betrayal of the shadow mother and the rage of the shadow father, the ego—overwhelmed and unprotected, retreats into the unconscious.
