Waves Of Plastic

Installation
2023
Waves Of Plastic is an immersive installation that transforms our perspective on traditional plastics and encourages us to consider their environmental impact. Our team experimented with various materials and techniques for preliminary work to create a range of bioplastics with different properties and characteristics. After research and experimentation, we selected the most promising bioplastics to feature in our installation. Through the use of bioplastics and film projections, the installation creates distorted visualizations of oceans that draw attention to pressing environmental problems by promoting a deeper understanding of plastics' role in contemporary culture, Waves Of Plastic challenges our cultural understandings and ways to take action.

“This interactive exhibit questions how plastics are seen in culture and increases public awareness of urgent environmental problems. Our approach was to explore the impact of plastics on the environment from a different angle, taking into account consumption patterns and the cultural significance of plastics. By incorporating various forms of media, including physical and digital elements, we aimed to create an immersive experience within the Digital Futures context. This project was a collaborative effort between: Chinenye Aginam, Ethan Griffin, Vaneeza Usman.”
