A campaign for the “Daily Bread Food Bank” of the GTA (Greater Toronto Area.)
“This project is a campaign for the Daily Bread Food Bank in the Greater Toronto Area. According to the Daily Bread Food Bank’s ‘Who’s Hungry 2021 Report’, there were 1.45 million visits to food banks last year, the highest number of visits ever recorded in Toronto. This represents a 47% increase compared to the previous year and is 1.5 times higher than the previous record set in 2010 at the peak of the 2008 recession. The Jars:This project was inspired by canned food. It is a common donation item. However, instead of using boring images of canned foods, I wanted to place healthy food items into glass jars to symbolize foods we like to eat. There are 7 jars in total. The 7 jars represent 7 days in a week. The viewer notes that the 7th day jar is completely empty. This signifies the declining quantities of foods in food banks.Biscuits:I divided a biscuit into three different pieces. These pieces represent three meals of the day. By cutting the biscuit into three pieces, I highlight the dire conditions at food banks.”
