Behind The Scenes - 2D

The interaction between the protagonist, the grandma and the little kid is the event that pulls the character out of her nostalgic cycle. I decided to draw them as 2D animation mimicking paper cut-outs to play along with the subway look. That scene functions as a moment of clarity, where the protagonist reconnects with the freedom of her childhood, represented by the kid. Finally looking forward for what's to come, as the older woman reminds her that life does not have to lose it's colour as we grow older. Towards the end, 2D animated effects such as scribbles and shapes appear as the character regains agency over how they perceive the present moment. The effects, inspired by the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, represent sparks of creativity and imagination while reintroducing elements from the beginning of the short, synchronized with the soundtrack. The film has the goal to connect with audiences, resonating with specific personal memories and communicating feelings that are hard to explain, yet universally shared.
