Global warming has raised global sea level about 8 inches since 1880, and the rate ofrise is accelerating. With such increases, current infrastructures would soon be inaccessibleand eventually be destroyed by water. Hence, new building methodologies and urbancontext must be considered.
“This thesis project aims to introduce an alternative solution for future urban planning.Project C- Complex is a modular structure that built upon the existing building. The structure is composed of a central core, a scaffold system, and add-on units. In terms of its functions, it offers transit terminals, market/ trading places, residentialareas, vertical gardens, schools, and health centers. With its modular system, the entire building would be much more resilient and efficient. The structure would have the capacity to rise along with the water. As the water rises, the lower units could be disassembled and reused at upper levels. This mixed-use structure would not only provide the needs for humans’ survival throughthe crisis, moreover, it would create a new way of living, in which everyone workstogether as a stronger community.”
