Interior Design
2019
Site: 460 King St W, Toronto, ON M5V 1L7. The site of the hotel is located at the intersection of Spadina Ave and King St, downtown Toronto, where two main streets meet here. Traditional buildings are being inherited and well kept on the West side of Spadina, while condo and high-rise buildings getting taller and taller on the Eastside. People from different cultures come together, they bring in new things, for example, restaurants, into the site, while the traditional culture still active along the street. Because of all these elements, King and Spadina are getting more and more energetic. These aspects can help tourists understand people's everyday life in Toronto and local culture give a sense of connotation, divertingness, and timelessness to the hotel.
“The intent of this Hotel is to indicate the idea of the interaction of cultural contents and modern city life in Toronto, the clash between tradition and modern culture. The concept for this Hotel is inspired by the building site which is the intersection of King Street West and Spadina Avenue. Our client has a background in immigration who wants to show her experience of Toronto to the tourist, in order to let them have more understanding about Toronto, especially the area of the King and Queen area, even though they just stay for a short time. The idea of this hotel creates a cultural epitome of the city with subjective understanding and emphasizes the unique relationship between culture, time, and space.”
